Utah Valley: Provo, Orem, and the Rest of the South End
Utah Valley's groundwater is the classic case. It moves through limestone formations before it ever reaches a tap, picking up calcium and magnesium along the way, and homeowners in Provo, Orem, Lehi, and the surrounding cities see it on their glass as a stubborn white film that regular soap and water barely touches. It shows up fastest on windows near sprinkler heads and on ground-level glass that catches overspray every time the yard gets watered. Salt Lake, Davis, and Weber County: More Variable, Still Hard

St. George: Desert Water, Desert Heat
Southern Utah's water sources carry their own significant mineral content, and the region's climate makes the problem worse rather than better. Summer heat in St. George means any water that touches glass, whether from a sprinkler, a hose, or rain, evaporates fast and leaves its minerals concentrated in a small, hard-drying spot rather than a thin film that might rinse away. Add the red rock dust that settles on exterior surfaces throughout Washington County, and St. George homeowners end up fighting two separate deposits at once: mineral spotting and grit.
Look at ground-floor and low windows first
Sprinkler overspray is the most common source of hard water spotting anywhere in Utah, so the windows nearest lawn sprinklers or drip lines almost always show it first.
Check whether the haze changes when wet
